EXTENDED

· MORNING: Santa Barbara Christian School offers morning
Extended Day Care (EDC) for all of its
students. Supervision will begin at 7:30
a.m.
and will be free of charge in the morning.
· AFTERNOON: EDC hours after school for grades K-5 are from
3:00 – 5:30 p.m. EDC hours after school
for grades 6-8 are from 3:15 - 5:30 p.m. The hourly rate is $3.00 and is charged in quarter-hour

per child per day fee will be charged for any child in EDC
without a time sheet. All
monies paid but not used on a time sheet will be carried
over to the next school year.
Multiple children (up to 3) will be covered
on one time sheet.
If your
child attends EDC and does
not have a time sheet, or your prepaid time sheet has
expired, there will be a fixed $10.00 fee per child per day (payable
at the time of pick up) incurred.
Parents are responsible for signing their children
out each day.

FACULTY
AND STAFF:
Each person working at Santa Barbara Christian School is a born-again Christian who seeks to have a personal walk
with Jesus Christ. Besides
seeking people who are prepared spiritually and exhibit a
definite call to Christian education, it is our desire that
our teachers be well qualified professionally through the
securing of a valid teaching credential. Teachers are encouraged to continue updating
their education by enrolling in graduate classes.
Meet the Teachers
ELEMENTARY
CURRICULUM: The Elementary program provides for the
proper education of the student at each grade level. The subjects
of Bible, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art,
and Physical Education are taught in each grade. Computer
instruction is available to students in grades K - 8. (More information under School Curriculum)
MIDDLE
SCHOOL CURRICULUM:
The same subjects as Elementary are covered
in Middle
School with the addition of elective classes. Back to Top
STANDARDIZED
TESTING: Stanford Achievement Tests are given to
all students in April. Students in grades 3, 5, and 7 are
also given the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test.
DISCIPLINE: We emphasize positive
reinforcement, but occasionally withdraw privileges if necessary.
Sending a child to the Principal's office for a friendly reminder,
a conference, or discipline purposes occurs when undesirable
conduct is chronic or severe. We do not use corporal punishment. Back to Top
EXTRACURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES:
Elementary
students have Chapel once a week with speakers, special music,
and class presentations. They participate in the ACSI speech
meet, spelling bee, and math competition. Each class does
at least one community outreach activity as a missions project,
and all classes go on short field trips with some classes
having special trips, such as a 4th grade trip to Sacramento,
a 6th grade Science Camp, and an 8th grade study tour of the
Washington D.C. area. Middle School students have Chapel one morning a week,
and a after-school sports program is available as well.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT: Parents are
expected to participate in many ways such as classroom helpers,
field trip drivers and chaperones, work day helpers, speakers
in class or Chapel, and helping with class parties or fundraisers
like the Auction. We maintain frequent
communication between school and parents with notes, phone
calls, e-mails, conferences, and a monthly Principal's Letter.
Parents have the opportunity to be elected to the School Board. Back to Top
SCHOOL LIBRARY:Santa Barbara Christian School maintains a fine
14,000 volume library for use by its students.
Each year new books are added as we seek to make it
more complete. Parents are asked to help insure that borrowed
books are returned on time.
Middle School students are charged 25¢ per day for
overdue books. Meet
our Librarian
Students
are also encouraged to use the public library as a supplement
to the school library. Back to Top
TEXTBOOKS: Textbooks are loaned to the students (unless
it is a consumable workbook) and it is expected that students
will take proper care of them.
Middle School students are required to cover their
textbooks. Students
will be responsible for any books lost or damaged.
TRANSPORTATION: Parents are responsible
for providing transportation to and from school for their
students. Some students
ride bicycles, others come in car pools. Those students who ride bicycles are
required to have them licensed and provide a helmet, a sturdy
cable or chain and lock to secure them while at school.
The school will not
be held responsible for lost or stolen bicycles
DRESS CODE: In order to create an environment which
the school feels is conducive to learning, and taking into
account student comfort, economics, safety and the biblical
mandates of both modesty and discretion, a Dress Code has
been established. Please see Dress Code.

SALT
HOUR REQUIREMENT: The
SALT (Serving
And Laboring Together)
Program is under the direction of the Parent Teacher Fellowship
and is designed to meet the needs of our school, keep our
costs down and give parents the opportunity to be actively
involved in the total educational process. Each year parents are required to serve a minimum
of 40 hours per family by April 15.
There are many different opportunities and ways in
which parents can fulfill this requirement.
We encourage parents to continue to serve our school
in any way they can even after fulfilling their 40 hour requirement.
Parents will be billed in May for any unserved
hours at the rate of $37.50 per hour.
