8TH Grade Bible
The single greatest goal of 8th grade Bible at SBCS is to see the students get excited about their relationship with Jesus Christ. Junior High is usually the age when students start to look at Christianity not just as their parent’s religion, but rather as their own personal relationship with God. The job of the 8th grade Bible teacher is not just to throw at the students a bunch of facts and information from the Bible, but to demonstrate and teach them about the life changing power of God. How are the truths of the Bible going to change the way they live? It is more than just head knowledge or an “A” on a test or quiz. It is about becoming closer to the image of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
That said, the class reflects a strong belief in having a firm foundation and understanding of the Scriptures. Jesus said in Matthew 22:37 to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” During the course of the year, students will be greatly encouraged and challenged to love God with their mind.
They will be tested and quizzed on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as presented in the four gospels. They will know the differences and similarities of the gospels as well as the seven “I Am” statements found in John. They will memorize the order of the New Testament books and be able to prove from the Scriptures seven reasons why Jesus is God. Students will be tested on numerous Bible verses as well as how to lead someone to a relationship with Jesus Christ through the use of “The Roman’s Road.”
They will know the 12 disciples and how God used them to change the world. Students will learn how to write out their own testimony and then have the opportunity to share it during a middle school chapel. 8th grade Bible also studies the life of the early Church and learns the differences between the various denominations. Throughout the curriculum we will study most of the books of the New Testament as well as the future events discussed in the book of Revelation.
A great deal is expected from 8th graders in their Bible class. It is not an easy class and students will work extremely hard. They will have at least one quiz a week and one test a month. While the class is a serious academic course, the ultimate goal is that through their studies they will fall more in love with the One who saved their souls.
