6th Grade History
The student will be taken on a journey through time to observe and study the development of the earliest civilizations along the banks of the major rivers around the world. Out of these early civilizations they will study the growth and history of the classical world. In the process, they will learn about the geography of these regions and its importance to the modern political landscape of these areas today.
Besides our textbook, the students will be introduced to simulations to enhance their understanding. They will use internet research to formulate and present Power Point reports on various topics. In the course of the year they will watch numerous video clips from a variety of sources to augment the material and obtain a better sense of the land, the culture, the battles, and the people who lived in these times.
And, since it is His story, we will observe God’s hand in the development and decline of these civilizations, His providential working in history, and His direct intervention at times in the affairs of mankind.
7th Grade History
Beginning with the fall of Rome, the students will be witness to the rise and fall of various empires throughout Europe, Asia and Africa and begin to understand how the interaction between these civilizations led to the development of the world we live in today. Our emphasis will be on Europe and its transitions from the “Dark Ages”, growth and influence of the Church, Medieval times, The Crusades, the Reformation, the rise of modern nations, the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, and the Enlightenment.
These stories and events will be told through the textbook for an overview of the times, simulations to enhance and bring realism to these eras, and video clips to stimulate the imagination of what life was like during these periods. In the process, they will learn about the geography of these regions and its importance to the modern political landscape of Europe and the World today.
And, since it is His story, we will observe God’s hand in the development and changes in His Church and its influence for good and bad in the development of Western Civilization.
6th Grade Bible
Our study of His Word begins in Genesis, laying the foundation for the history of Israel and God’s redemptive plan for mankind. We begin to understand the many who’s who are involved, the where’s of all the action, and even the why’s of the events and actions taking place from Adam to Solomon. In the process of our study, we begin to see ourselves through the eyes of God and our need for redemption.
We will also observe that the character of mankind does not change over time or place and that there is nothing new under the sun.
We will study these stories and characters historically, topically, and thematically, observing how God controls His story from beginning to end. He has a plan, a purpose, and has prophetically proclaimed both throughout Scripture. We will hide God’s Word in our hearts through weekly memorization of appropriate verses according to our weekly topic. Our study of the Bible will also include reader’s theaters, art projects, crafts, and video taping of Biblical reenactments.
